bad: my Treo got stolen today. My own damn fault; I thought it
was upstairs with me, and in reality it was downstairs with the damn
kid.
good: new fanclub, no longer Delphi. Stop by and say
hi.

I am feeling much, much better. Stitches came out, I
still have a full range of movement. Still a little weak, my air
hockey game is still a bit rough, but I'm happy to report I can still
rawk.

In other news, if I'd thought of it earlier, I would
have convinced everyone to omit the "R" in "March"
this year.
Because then we would have been living in "Mach
Five".
Go Speed Racer.

So I recorded a song last night. It's really rough, but kinda catchy.
If only I was a fifteen piece ska orchestra.
listen to "rough skank"

Most personally notable quote of this year so far:
"I drink in 7/8 time. I'm like the Dave Brubeck of booze."
Oh. Also, I'm doing a play. Weird.

Forgot to mention -- the official alpha version of the novel
is available (and has been for about a month... could have sworn I mentioned
it here, but I guess not....), so go
get it.
I've done things I'm ashamed of. This
isn't necessarily one of them. But it might be. It kind
of depends on your sense of humor.

Version 1.1 of the novel is up. You can find it here,
or just browse the Words section. Mostly minor
changes, where I was actually wondering if I wanted to bother posting
a revision at all. But it was quite a few tiny little changes, and I
figured I would avoid having someone emailing me a bunch of corrections
I had already made.
I did, indeed, go to the Bust party,
and I only ran into one previous sexual partner. She acted shy, I got
drunk, she disappeared, it was all for the best. Still, the way I've
felt the last few days, I have to wonder if she's unearthed her old
benjones voodoo doll and dunked it in oatmeal. I can only assume that's
the cause.
6 december 4
If you were to read the entry for the 7th of july, you'd notice we had
a dance party. Well, I realized today that I never posted the pictures.
So.... here.
Tonight, supposedly, I'm going to the Bust
Magazine Holiday party. This is as much of a mystery to me as it
is to you. These things just happen, I suppose. And this one must be
happening, as I find myself dyspeptic, unfocused, and in regards to
my wardrobe, irresolute.
I updated the links page for absolutely no
reason, as I find that links pages mean absolutely nothing. Tell you
what, if you visit every link, you win a prize. Just film yourself reading
all the pages at the end of every link and submit the film to me. I
will then select something worthy for you from my large stack of Very
Valuable Things.
Last bit, how is it that nobody noticed the two typos on this page?
If you see a typo, please, for the love of god, let
me know. I run spell check as often as I can, but sometimes things
slip through the cracks when I'm editing and, well, letters go missing.
The wayward "l" and "a" have been returned to their
loving words now, but no thanks to you lot.
Right. I'm off to schmooze now. Or rather, I'm off to make all of my
friends very, very jealous.

I made Xmas ornaments today.

if you want one, let me know.

Finished NaNoWriMo
for the second year in a row. This time, however, the final product
is still a novel (last year, at around 33,000 words I decided my novel
would be much better as a comic book series, so the final product was
a large illegible bundle of notes). And because I want as much feedback
as I can get, I've posted the entire novel as a downloadable text file.
You can find it here, or
just browse the Words section.
Also, I got conned into opening a MySpace
account. I will probably use the blog feature a fair amount, so if you
get bored, check
me out there.

Yesterday a girl called me "sweetie-face". Or maybe "sweety-face",
I couldn't hear how she spelled it, though my guess is "ie"
because "sweety" looks too much like "sweaty" and
I'm quite certain she didn't mean to call me "sweaty-face".
Anyway, I was struck by the fact that nobody had ever called me "sweetie(y)-face"
before, and therefore I had no idea how to react. I ended up sitting
down in a chair, which I deemed safer than attempting to make conversation.
Also, I quit smoking. Couldn't justify spending $120-$150 a month on
cigarettes when I'm wondering where rent is coming from next month.
So now my body is a gnawing, restless, nauseated pit of woe. I feel
real sexy, I can tell you.
Also also, I turned 30 last month. Read all about it here.
Also also in addition, only two more days until nanowrimo.
It's true that I did technically win last
year, but this year I intend to actually finish something that people
can read. It will likely be not of the making much sense.
And also also in addition as well, thanks to Chad,
who is raffling off a full set of Death
Weasel comics to people who donate money to me. I'm not really sure
how that works exactly, where he buys my stuff and then makes people
give me more money in order for him to give away my stuff, but it sure
is a sweetie-face move if ever I've seen one.

It's time for the RNC. And frankly, I want to make sure my friends are
safe. A quick Google search for the two protesters who came in earlier
presented a bit of a quandary regarding how one might file a misconduct
report against a New York City police officer. It took me quite a while
to find the right thing, so I'll make it easier for others.
The misconduct of NYC police is handled by the CCRB. They're at http://nyc.gov/ccrb.
There you can find all sorts of information on where to file misconduct
forms and how to get there. Of course, finding the form online is a
bit harder, so I've compiled one from various sources. It's not pretty,
but it should do the job. Get
it here.

So for those of you who find yourselves on the left side of the country,
you might be interested to know that I have a couple zines in an art
show. San Jose Museum of Art is putting
on a show calledArt of Zines. The opening party is Saturday
July 24th from 8-10pm, and would cost you $20 to get in. Except, of
course, that I can't exactly go, so I have a free ticket up for grabs.
Let me know if you want it,
I'll get it to you pronto. Otherwise, the show is there until Halloween,
so there's no excuse not to go see it. You know, apart from the fact
that it's in San Jose.
7 july 4
You may well know my esteemed and powerful bartender friend Patrick
A. Reed. If you've been to one of the events at Jigsaw,
he was the guy in back supplying you with the sweet sweet nectar. Well,
when he's not slinging booze, he's spinning grooves. That is to say,
he's a DJ of the highest caliber -- he once got a floor full of hip
hop kids dancing to the Beatles.
You may know Max
Fenton, artist supreme and Jigsaw supporter and counselor. He curates
shows with nationally recognized artists, he consults with film stars
and clothing designers, he'll likely rule the world in a few years.
Well, he knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a dog and, well, long
story short:
Tonight, there will be the dancing.
Manhattanites, you know full well it's impossible to go dancing in
this town. You YEARN to go dancing. You CRAVE some booty shaking. You
gots happy feet and you cannot deny it. Well, that's what my friends
are here for. Max and Patrick are your hosts and entertainers. All you
can do to thank them is move your body.
Rothko. Tonight.
One Dollar.
Yes, I said One Dollar. That's the cover. One. Single. Dollar.
There's a full bar staffed by beautiful people. The drinks are reasonably
priced for a one dollar dance night.
Oh, and there's a smoking lounge downstairs, for all of you who, like
me, feel inclined to partake of the cancer once in a while but can't
be bothered to stop drinking while you do so.
Not to mention an eclectic mix of music from all points in the spectrum,
carefully selected for the singular purpose of putting your ass in motion.
Have I convinced you yet?
TONIGHT. I dunno, let's say 9:37PM.
ROTHKO

F, J, M, Z train to Essex/Delancy Street
It's summer, kids.
Please feel free to forward this message to everybody and their mothers.
[updated 6 december - oh hey, here's pictures of that dance. Forgot
to post them.]

So I was talking to Patrick and bemoaning the fact that I rarely update
my own site anymore. He said he didn't notice so much because I was
always working on the
jigsaw site when I had time to muck around in html. I said he was
probably right, but I would try and get some new content on my site
anyway within the next month.
In the meantime, here, have an ad.

Marc and AK had their apartment burn down. They need money.
Go here and find
out how you can help.
27 may 4
So June 2nd is fast approaching, and with it the opening of Jigsaw.
I've been pretty busy, oh yes. You should stop by some time and see
what I've been up to.
Somewhere in July I'll likely get back to making comics and music.
Until then, keep reading.
14 april 4
Signed the lease yesterday. Move in Monday. Hope to have the store open
by June. Been filling out paperwork for what seems like forty hours,
and am really starting to get a hang of this fax machine. I figure I'll
see just how much I can throw on these credit cards before they turn
to dust, and by then the rest of the money will show up. All in all,
I feel rather like a blindfolded skydiver. So I'm just enjoying the
sensation of flight.
Oh, and if you, the person reading this, are the cute girl who sold
me art supplies on Monday -- yes, I was flirting with you.
I was just doing an astoundingly poor job of it.
8 april 4
So I can't hold onto the news any longer.
It's a weekly column about my road to opening a store in Manhattan.
Check back every week to see if I go bankrupt!

Helping Max with this event.
the image was huge, but if you want to see it, go here.

Yesterday I gave myself a challenge: to draw 100
rocketships in one day. I'm happy to report it was far more fun
to draw than to code. But code it I did, because I love you all so very
very much.
20 march 4
For APE I decided to take six of the one page comics from this site
and add six new pages and make a mini-comic called shorts.
I printed 100 copies. I didn't expect to sell out.
So instead of doing another print run, I've decided to just put the
rest of the material up on the website. That's right -- FREE
COMICS.
For those of you who may have purchased shorts, don't despair.
That's a hand-colored cover, absolutely one of a kind. That's gotta
be worth at least a buck. Still, if you feel ripped off, send
me an email with your mailing address and I'll send you something
special.
Also, added a couple new comics to the store,
for those of you who still need to buy stuff.
15 march 4
happy birthday, hideki, you crazy sushi-makin' bastard.
13 march 4
So last night it became official -- I'm now in a band called
Arctic Square. Tonight we'll
be playing at the Lyric Lounge in Greenpoint (278 Nassau Avenue @ Morgan
Avenue, don't go to Nassau Street no matter what anybody says). I'll
be banging on stuff and drinking, so it's really not that different
from any other Saturday.
Oh, and I made it back from San Francisco. I only died a couple times
along the way.
10 february 4
Tomorrow morning I hop back in the little blue car (of doom) and drive
against the weather and all reason back to San Francisco. Along the
way: old friends, complete strangers, and two very real opportunities
to injure myself gravely in the name of fun.
For those of you on the West Coast: I'll have a table at the Alternative
Press Expo. 21-22 february, Concourse Exhibition Center, S.F. Stop by,
say hi, have a drink, give me some gas money for the trip back.
5 february 4
I swear I'm coughing up colors that really shouldn't be coming from
my lungs. I've never felt so little desire to leave the house. But hey,
it means I fiddled with the store
a bit today, so PayPal is actually in effect. Buy my comics with a credit
card? Nifty! Ain't technology grand.
Very odd noises coming from the hall outside. A bit like somebody sharpening
a knife while bouncing on a squeaky mattress. I think I'll postpone
climbing in the shower until the coast is clear.
4 february 4
Still sick. Couldn't bring myself to step outside. so I thought I might
spruce up the website a bit. Largely because people keep telling me
"You know, it's really hard to find your email address on your
website."
For the record, folks, it's right down there, on the right. Hope you're
happy.
Please don't send me offers to enlarge or refinance anything.
